Composer-In-Residence

As a composer-in-residence, Paul Sánchez enjoys working with university students in an intensive mentoring environment including coachings, lessons, discussion, and live performance over a three-day period.

Paul will work to tailor his offerings to suit the needs of a particular group of students or institution. Typically, he will work in coachings and lessons with voice and piano students as they learn and rehearse his music, offering insights only available from the composer, himself, and giving students the unique experience of working with a living composer in close collaboration. These experiences typically culminate in a public performance of Sánchez' music, presented by the students, and sometimes with Sánchez himself at the piano. Sánchez also enjoys collaboration with faculty at host institutions in performances of his music.

Sánchez may be commissioned to compose a new work as composer-in-residence, as he did for Lebanon Valley College with the composition of Kindred Vibrations: on a journal entry of Henry D. Thoreau dated January 13, 1857, for Voice, Flute, and Piano.

"Paul is an incredible composer, master teacher, and colleague. He was the composer in residence for our inaugural Festival of Inclusive Excellence in Song and we couldn't have asked for anyone better. The piece he wrote was so sensitive and clearly spoke to all the things this festival speaks to. His work with the student performers was exhilarating to watch as he pulled every nuance possible out of them."

– Dr. Jonathan Walker-VanKuren, Artist Teacher of Studio Voice and Music Theatre, Lebanon Valley College
